DOCUMENTS AND ENTRY

Check entry documents before flights are committed

Entry permission depends on nationality, passport type, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status and current Government of India rules. We help you build the checklist, but the official visa or OCI service, or the relevant Indian Mission, gives the final answer for each traveller.

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders CHECK CURRENT RULES
Travel with your current passport and OCI card. If a passport was renewed or personal details changed, review the current OCI Miscellaneous Services requirements at ociservices.gov.in well before departure; the action required can depend on age and registration basis.
Foreign passport, no OCI OFFICIAL PORTAL
Check which visa category applies only at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Each traveller normally needs an individual passport; application requirements and permitted entry points can change. Avoid sites promising unofficial express approval.
Indian passport holders abroad VALID PASSPORT
Travellers using an Indian passport should check its validity and the airline's document requirements. Carry a supporting Indian ID if available, but do not rely on Aadhaar or PAN as an international travel document.
Children and infants EACH TRAVELLER
Children require their own valid travel document. If surnames differ or a child travels with one parent or guardian, ask the airline and relevant authorities which consent or relationship papers are required for that journey.
Secure document backups KEEP SECURE
Carry one secure paper set of essential document details and protected offline digital copies. Share full copies only when legitimately required by an airline, hotel or authority; do not leave them loose or send them in the first enquiry.
Check every booking detail BEFORE PAYMENT
Enter names and travel-document details according to the airline's rules. Check spellings, passport number, expiry date and date of birth before paying for any flight, and correct discrepancies before travel.
For privacy, do not send full passport scans in the first enquiry. Share each traveller's nationality, passport type and OCI status; final entry requirements should then be checked directly with the official Government of India service or relevant Indian Mission.
FLIGHTS AND ARRIVAL

Build the yatra around a rested arrival

International and domestic schedules change by date. We begin with your confirmed arrival time, add recovery time, then select practical flights or trains without placing a ritual morning immediately after a tight connection.

Choosing the arrival airport or city DATES FIRST
Madurai is the usual airport used for Rameshwaram in these plans and is connected through major Indian cities. We choose the final arrival and departure plan after comparing current schedules, fares, baggage rules and your onward journey.
From North America ALLOW RECOVERY
Long journeys usually require one or more connections. We review the actual schedule for your dates and recommend enough rest before a long road journey, sacred bathing or an early ritual morning.
From Singapore and Malaysia CHECK CONNECTION
Regional services may provide convenient connections through Chennai, Bengaluru or another hub. A same-day onward flight is used only when the layover, terminal and baggage arrangement are comfortable for the family.
From Australia and New Zealand PROTECT THE FIRST DAY
Most routings involve at least one connection. We plan the first stay around the actual landing time and do not treat an overnight flight as rest, especially for elders and children.
Domestic travel within the yatra SHOWN SEPARATELY
Suitable domestic flights or train journeys are recommended after the long-haul timings are known. Current fare, baggage, change rules and who will book are shown separately in the written proposal.
A recovery or rest night WISE WHEN POSSIBLE
An extra night before an important lunar date (tithi) or early ritual day can protect the family from missed connections and fatigue. We recommend it when the schedule is tight, while recognising that extra time cannot prevent every disruption.
MONEY

Plan for cards, digital payments and a modest amount of cash

Payment acceptance varies by city, temple area and individual service provider. Your written proposal explains what has already been paid, what may be due locally and where personal spending remains with you.

Carry a modest cash amount SMALL NOTES
Smaller notes can help with personal offerings or places that do not accept digital payments. Use secure bank ATMs or authorised exchange services; availability, withdrawal limits and fees vary.
Cards CHECK WITH YOUR BANK
Hotels and established businesses commonly accept cards, but network or issuer controls can interrupt a payment. Tell your bank about the trip, understand foreign-use fees and keep a second payment method.
UPI phone payments KEEP AN ALTERNATIVE
India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is widely used for phone payments, but access for foreign visitors, supported apps and setup rules can change. Rely on it only after you know your own account or app works in India, and keep another way to pay.
Dakshina and ritual charges CONFIRMED IN WRITING
Your proposal states whether pandit dakshina and ritual-service charges are included or payable separately. Personal offerings remain voluntary, and the family should not face an unexplained demand on a ritual morning.
Gratuities PERSONAL CHOICE
Gratuities for drivers and hotel staff are discretionary unless a service charge is stated. Ask the coordinator if you want a locally appropriate range; no one should pressure the family.
Payments to us SECURE INVOICE
Pay only against a written proposal or invoice, using account details verified through our official contact channel. The booking amount, balance dates, cancellation terms and refund terms are shown before confirmation.
HEALTH

Prepare for the real physical demands of the journey

The yatra can involve early starts, heat, steps, barefoot walking, sacred bathing, road journeys and long days. A health condition does not automatically exclude a family, but it should shape the pace, access and ritual arrangements from the beginning.

Talk to your doctor or travel-health clinic PERSONAL MEDICAL ADVICE
Before travel, discuss the India itinerary, current vaccinations and any planned bathing or fasting with a doctor or travel-health clinic. Advice depends on age, health history, departure country, season and route.
Bring prescribed medication CABIN BAG
Carry enough prescribed medicine plus a sensible reserve, in labelled packaging, with a prescription or doctor's letter where appropriate. Check airline and Indian entry rules for any controlled medicine.
Drinking water and sacred bathing SAFE WATER
Use sealed or otherwise reliably treated drinking water and maintain good hand hygiene. Avoid swallowing water during sacred bathing, and ask your doctor about any wound or immune concern before river or sea exposure.
Food EAT WITH CARE
Choose freshly prepared food from reliable kitchens and adapt spice or oil to the traveller. Satvik or Jain meals can be requested for agreed days, subject to the kitchen and stay selected.
Feet and barefoot areas PROTECT AND PLAN
Temple access may require removing footwear. Carry comfortable slip-ons and basic foot care; tell the coordinator about diabetes, reduced sensation in the feet (neuropathy), wounds or mobility limits so barefoot walking can be reduced where permitted.
Insurance REVIEW THE COVER
Consider travel insurance that suits the family, including medical care, emergency transport, delays and cancellation. Read the limits for age, existing health conditions, ritual bathing and domestic journeys, and keep the insurer’s assistance details easy to reach.
Share health, dietary and mobility needs early so the pace and access can be adapted. Prescribed medication and your doctor's guidance take priority over general fasting; the ritual form can then be discussed respectfully with the officiating pandit.
PHONES AND COMMUNICATION

Keep one dependable way to reach the coordinator

Coverage, roaming, SIM activation and Wi-Fi quality vary by provider and location. Decide before arrival which primary and backup method your family will use for travel updates and emergencies.

An Indian SIM CHECK AT ARRIVAL
A local prepaid SIM may be useful, but document requirements, activation time, availability and foreign-visitor rules vary. Buy only from an authorised provider or retailer and keep the receipt.
Travel eSIM (digital SIM) CHECK YOUR PHONE
A travel eSIM is a digital SIM that can provide data after landing when the phone is unlocked, compatible and covered by the India plan. Install and test it before departure while keeping access to your usual number.
Roaming ASK YOUR PROVIDER
Confirm India coverage, high-speed data limits, call charges and roaming controls before travel. It can remain a useful backup for calls and one-time passwords even when another data option is primary.
WhatsApp and calls COORDINATION
With your consent, the coordinator can use WhatsApp for daily timings and location updates. Keep the phone accessible, but also save the main contact number and hotel details offline.
Charging UNIVERSAL ADAPTER
India uses 230V at 50Hz, with several socket types in circulation. Check each device's input range, carry a certified universal adapter, and follow airline cabin rules for any power bank.
Photography and valuables FOLLOW LOCAL RULES
Phone and camera rules differ by temple and can change. Follow posted and security directions, never photograph cremation rites or people bathing without consent, and leave valuables securely before theertham observances.
TEMPLE AND RITUAL ETIQUETTE

Arrive prepared, then follow the place and the pandit

Each temple and family tradition has its own practice. We brief you before every sacred stop so you can be respectful without feeling anxious about customs that may be unfamiliar.

Dress MODEST AND PRACTICAL
Choose modest, easy-to-change clothing. Some temples or rites request dhoti, veshti, saree, salwar or another specific form of dress; current rules and the pandit's instructions are shared before the visit.
Leather items CHECK EACH TEMPLE
Rules for leather items vary by temple. Carry as little as possible on ritual days and follow the posted or security directions rather than assuming one rule across the whole circuit.
Barefoot areas WHERE REQUIRED
Footwear is removed in temple zones and some ritual areas, but the exact boundaries vary. Health and mobility come first; we identify assistance or an alternative wherever local rules permit.
Fasting PANDIT AND DOCTOR
Fasting is not a single universal rule. If advised for your observance, its form is agreed with the pandit; prescribed medicines, hydration and your doctor's instructions take priority.
Who performs FAMILY-SPECIFIC
Who leads a rite depends on its purpose, family tradition and the pandit's guidance. We place the question before the officiating pandit in advance and explain how other family members can participate.
Sacred time and practical timing UNHURRIED
Leave room for prayer, emotion and rest while respecting essential access windows and other pilgrims. The coordinator balances sacred time with the practical conditions of the day.
PACKING

Pack for changing clothes, temple access and long travel days

Travel light, but keep documents, medicines, ritual clothing and one dry change easy to reach. The exact clothing, bathing needs and samagri are confirmed after your itinerary and family rites are settled.

ITEM
WHY
PRIORITY
Dry changes and a towel for bathing days
Keep lightweight clothes, undergarments and a towel in the day bag. The number of changes depends on the sea and theertham observances your family undertakes.
Essential
Ritual clothing once confirmed
Bring the clothing recommended for the agreed rites, and check any temple-specific requirement before buying or packing it.
Essential
Slip-on footwear
Choose comfortable footwear that is easy to remove and store where footwear is not permitted; grip and support matter more than convenience alone.
Essential
Prescribed medicine and supporting documents
Carry labelled medicine, prescriptions or a doctor's letter in the cabin bag, with a sensible reserve for delays and any required airline approval.
Essential
Travel documents and secure backups
Carry current travel documents, confirmations and a protected paper or offline backup without leaving unnecessary identity copies loose.
Essential
Universal adapter
Use a certified universal adapter suitable for 230V at 50Hz, and confirm the input range of every device.

Useful during road, river and outdoor waiting; also follow doctor-advised sun protection and hydration.
Recommended
Power bank
Useful on long travel and ritual days; its capacity and packing must follow the airline's cabin-baggage rules.
Recommended
A personal foot-care kit

Useful when handwashing is not close by, while not replacing proper handwashing whenever it is available.
Recommended
A face covering if useful
For dust, crowds or personal comfort; choose an appropriate mask if a medical condition requires particular protection.

Written family and ancestral details
Write the names, relationships, gotra and intended sankalpa needed for the agreed rite. The pandit confirms the exact details, and private information should be kept secure.
Recommended
Warm layer for cooler months
North Indian mornings can be cool in winter; check the forecast close to travel and pack for your own comfort.

READY TO SHAPE THE PRACTICAL PLAN

Tell us who is travelling, your dates and where the journey begins.

You do not need to know every flight or ritual detail before enquiring. Share the family size, dates, mobility needs, passport types—not passport numbers—and the purpose of the yatra. We guide the next planning step and point you to the official source whenever an entry or health decision must be confirmed.

Your yatra is shaped around your family and sacred purpose.
